The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reports that hotels are exceptionally vulnerable to bed bug infestations. High turnover in occupancy, combined with easy and accessible travel enable faster spread of the critters. They hide in tiny folds in mattresses and on clothing, waiting for the perfect moment to bite - which causes extremely uncomfortable itching for anyone allergic to their saliva.

How to avoid bed bugs.
